Physical Education
At Ettington C of E Primary School and Pre-School, we aim to nurture and inspire a lifelong love of physical activity in every child through high-quality physical education, underpinned by the National Curriculum. We believe that every child should feel included, valued and able to participate, regardless of their starting point, ability, background, interests or individual needs.
We recognise that physical activity and sport play an important role in supporting children’s physical, social and emotional development. Our PE curriculum provides every child with opportunities to experience a broad and diverse range of sports, activities and skills, while also celebrating sporting events and achievements beyond the curriculum. Lessons are carefully planned in a sequential and progressive way, enabling children to develop their knowledge, skills, confidence and physical literacy at their own pace, while being appropriately challenged and supported to achieve their personal best.
Through high-quality physical education, our whole-school values and a whole-child approach, we aim to develop confident, resilient and motivated children who understand the importance of being active and looking after their physical and mental well-being. We listen to our children’s interests, experiences and needs, providing a range of inclusive active experiences, clubs and opportunities that encourage everyone to take part and find activities they enjoy.
We want every child to develop the values and skills to work collaboratively, celebrate and respect the achievements of others, and recognise and take pride in their own progress and successes. We understand that success in PE and sport looks different for every child, and we celebrate effort, perseverance, improvement, participation and achievement in all its forms.
Our aim is to ensure that every child leaves primary school with the confidence, skills and positive mindset to participate in physical activity and meet new sporting challenges at secondary school and beyond. By promoting healthy bodies alongside healthy minds, we strive to create an inclusive environment where every child feels a sense of belonging, can flourish and understands the lifelong benefits of being active.
