Music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children. It is a means of personal expression, and it plays an important part in the personal development of people. Music reflects the culture and society we live in, and so the teaching and learning of music enables children to better understand this. Besides being a creative and enjoyable activity, music can be challenging and it plays an important part in helping children feel part of a community.
Here at Ettington, we aim to provide opportunities for all children to create, compose, play, perform and enjoy music. To develop their skills, to appreciate a wide variety of musical forms, and begin to make judgements about the quality of music they encounter.
Here are some of the rich learning experiences the children have had the opportunity to participate in.
Summer 2015
Upper KS2 participated in the 10 pieces scheme, an exciting new BBC led initiative for primary schools focusing on classical music and creativity. This became part of their arts award journey. To achieve the Discover arts award children and young people discover the arts around them, find out about artists and their work and share their experiences with others, gaining a certificate at the end. We are pleased to announce 51 ks2 children passed their Discover Award – Well done!
Other key musical events which take place developing the positive profile of music across school include Harvest.
And of course we celebrate Christmas in song! Here are our wonderful KS2 children performing in their first school Carol concerts along with some fabulous individual and group instrumental performances.
