South Warwickshire Athletics Finals
On Monday 11th July, 13 Ettington children were chosen as part of the Shipston Area Athletics Team competing at the South Warwickshire Finals at the Stratford upon Avon track. All the children did really well in their track & field events with many 2nd and 3rd places but also Gold medals for Matthew- long jump, Leah-600m, Lucia- long jump & howler. The area came 3rd overall which was a great achievement. Well done to Matthew, Henry, Roxanne, Tom, Bradley, Leah, Hope, Lucia, Ned, Thomas, Josh, Lauren & Hannah.
Amelia, Matthew, Jamie and Leah competed in a swimming competition on Saturday 21st May at Stratford Leisure Centre. Matthew broke the breast stroke record and Leah broke the freestyle record that had been in place for 10 years. Amelia came 4th in the front crawl and Jamie was 3rd in front crawl and 2nd in backstroke.
On Monday 16th May a Year 6 and Year 5 Team attended the annual High Five Tournament at Shipston High School. This year there were a record number of teams and some great standards of play. The Year 5 team consisting of Leah, Amelie, Poppy, Hope, Emilia, Ria & Jacob came third in their competition. They won 2 matches, drew 1 and lost 1(by only 1 goal) and scored overall 28 goals and only let in 6. A brilliant team effort and basis on which to build on for next year- Well done.
14 MAY & 15 MAY
More than 60 junior Stratford AC runners enjoyed two days of competition and success at the Warwickshire Track & Field County Championships, held jointly with Leicestershire. The future of the club is in safe hands, proved by Leah Bowen who won her under 11 multi event competition.20 APRIL
On Wednesday the following children from Years 1 and 2 (Holly, Jessica, Charlie, William, Tessa, Jack, Dillon, Meg, Xander, Sammy, Herbert, Harriet, Oliver, Dani and Tilly) took part in a multi sports competition at Kineton High school. The chilled wind, kept us on our toes during the competition however all children gave 100%. They all represented the school with pride and were a real asset to Ettington. As of yet, we are still awaiting the results of the competition and hopefully it will be good news.
UPDATE: We have just heard that we won our Kineton Area and then came 2nd overall from 18 South Warwickshire teams. For a small school competing against all those large schools, this is quite an achievement. St Nicholas who won is a large School in Alcester. This is the second year in a row we have won our area heat then came 2nd overall. Extremely proud of the children.
On Thursday 14th April the following children attended the Shipston Area Swimming Gala; Matthew, Jamie, Roxanne, Emily S, Jemima, Leah, Amelie, Lucia, Misa and Tom. All the children swam really well in the races of front crawl, back stroke, breast stroke and butterfly. Although we haven’t been given the timed results yet we understand that Matthew, Leah & Jamie are definitely through to the finals on Saturday 21st May, and possibly a couple of others. We will update results when we have them. A big well done and congratulations to all the swimmers who were so supportive of each other and again great Ambassadors for Ettington School
Matthew, Roxanne, Emily S & Leah took part in a relay mixed stroke race and freestyle race in Rugby for the National Swimming Championships for Primary Schools. It was the first time we have entered this event and qualified for the finals in Sheffield in the mixed stroke relay coming 3rd on the day- A great achievement.
We won 3-1 with Joe scoring 2 and Jamie 1. Team: Joe, Archie, Henry, Jamie, Jack, Tom, Bradley. Well done boys.
Hi 5 Netball Tournament
Year 5 took part for the first time in a High Five tournament at Princethorpe School on a bitterly cold evening. For some of the team this was their first competitive event. The team were very supportive of each other and despite playing well, especially Jacob, they did not progress to the final.

On Tuesday 8th March 2016, 7 children took part in a Netball tournament at Stratford High School. Unfortunately we lost all of our matches but everyone who was there were either Year 5 or Year 6. Well done to Poppy who scored Ettington’s goal and to Jacob, Lucia, Oscar, Amelie, Hope and Leah who also played well.
On Thursday 3rd of March Year 3 and Keegan played a football tournament at the Croft School. We won 1, drew 2 and lost 2. Well done to Ned and Josh who scored and also to Keegan in Year 1 who played because we didn’t have enough players. Well done to Bobby, Joe, Josh, Ned, Lola, William and Keegan.
Hi 5 Netball
On Wednesday 2nd March, our netball team played a home year 6 match against Hampton Lucy (a team that we played earlier this school year) and we won ….. again! The score for this game was an amazing 14-3! The gaols scored were: Jamie 1, Poppy 1, Jemima 1, Roxanne 2, Emily S 3 and Matthew B 6. Everybody played fantastically! Report by Matthew B
On a very cold Monday 29th February, the following children took part in a football tournament at Kineton High School – Lucia, Jacob, Tom, Oscar, Grace, Ned, Bobby & Josh. The team got off to a great start with a 2-0 win against Quinton. Lucia scoring both goals. The next two matches were draws against St Mary’s of Henley and Bidford ‘A’ and sadly we lost the last group match against Shipston, so just missed out on getting to the semi finals. Well played to everyone- a great team effort. Shipston were the winners of the competition, which was the only team we lost to. The runners up were St Mary’s whom we also played in our group, so we did amazingly well.
On Saturday 27th February , fourteen children from years 3-5 competed in a cross country event at Stratford Recreation Ground. Great commitment by all of the children. Well Done.
The following children from Years 4, 5 & 6 attended the Shipston Area Small Schools Sportshall (Indoor) Athletics Competition: Matthew, Henry, Joe, Jamie, Roxanne, Jemima, Emily S, Emily W, Tom, Alex, Bradley, Amelie, Leah, Hope, Poppy, Erin, Emilia, Jacob & Tom.
Each child took part in 2-4 events. The field events included; Speed bounce, Vertical jump, Standing long jump, Standing triple jump, Chest push & soft javelin. The track events included sprint and distance relay races plus Obstacle & Over/under relay races.
All of the children were a credit to Ettington School. They did their best, showing determination and encouragement for each other, which paid off with them winning the competition! A fantastic result – Well Done. The Team now progress to the Finals to be held in early March – Date to be confirmed.
The following children from Years 1 & 2 attended our first ever Gymnastics competition at Kineton High School: Oliver, Dillon, Dani, Meg, Chloe, Clea, Daisy & Elliot.
There were six Schools in total and each child had to perform eight floor movements and a vault (bench) routine. In addition the children had a practice session on a full sized trampoline, which was great fun. The children were also treated to an impressive demonstration by Kineton High School Gymnastic Club.
We are still awaiting the results to see whether our Team have progressed to the Finals, held sometime in March.
All the children were wonderful and had an amazing time.
On Saturday 23rd January, 16 children took part in a 1.4km Cross Country race at Stratford Recreation Ground. All the children ran extremely well- fantastic effort and determination, but a special mention to Thomas in Year 3 who came 3rd in his first ever race!

On Tuesday 24th November, Ettington travelled to just outside of the famous RICOH arena to play in a football tournament. They played against three teams from the Warwickshire area, battled hard, scored two great goals and performed very well. The particular highlights were the late penalty equaliser from Tom in the second game and the excellent finish from Henry to score his first goal for the school.
Well done all involved.
On Monday 16 November Ettington Primary School football team played Wellsbourne’s team. It was an interesting match and both teams had many shots on goal! But unfortunately, they weren’t all on target. The team was unlucky to lost 4-0 but hopefully the training will pay off for our next match. We hope we will bring a win home!

On Wednesday 11th November, a group of Year 5 and Year 6s plus Lucia took part in matches against Wellesbourne. The Year 5 tem won 9-6 and the following scored: Poppy (3), Amelie (3), Leah (1), Sam (1) and Emilia (1). It was for most of the Year 5 team their first time playing in a match. The Year 6 team won 9-5 and the following scored: Matthew (3), Roxanne (2), Emily S (2), Emily W (1) and Jemima (1).
On Saturday 17th October, some year 5 and year 6 children took part in a cross country race at Charlecote Park. All children did really well, especially Leah (year 5) who came 1st in her race! We hope our cross country success will continue.

On Wednesday 14th October, the netball team played a match against Hampton Lucy. after many hours of training, we went to the match and amazingly won 32-61 One of our best scores yet!
On Tuesday 13th October, Ettington boy’s football team played a match against Hampton Lucy. They have a new team and it was the first match of the year. They tried really hard but sadly lost 7-0.
