Sporting results 2014/2015
As the Ashes got underway so did Ettington’s budding cricketers – last week a group of Year 4 children took part in a Cricket Festival at Wellesbourne. They played a variety of cricket based games followed by a continuous cricket tournament. We are proud to say they came Runners Up. Well done!
Tag Rugby Tournament
This week Year 6 played in an annual Tag Rugby Tournament held at Shipston Rugby Club. On the hottest day the children played eight matches and showed great skill and team work. Team 1 were Runners Up for the Fair Play Award and came 3rd overall from nine teams. Team 2 came 6th. It was a great opportunity for every child in year 6 to compete and have fun. Well done.
On a glorious sunny afternoon this week we played two rounders matches at Ettington against Stratford Prep. Our Year 4/5 team played Stratford Prep’s B team and were just beaten 13 rounders to 12. Some great fielding & batting, especially Henry, and a brilliant team effort. Henry, Sam, Tom I, Reuben, Erin, Lily H, Leah, Emily W, Roxanne. Our Year 6 team played amazingly well. In the first Innings the fielders were catching out almost every ball and we won the match 13 1/2 rounders to 5 1/2. Another brilliant team effort but a special mention to Will who scored many rounders and with his quick thinking and speed was able to cover the whole rounders pitch, stopping Stratford Prep from scoring. Will, Oscar, Cameron, Chris, Dan, Danny, Kira, Madison, Kathryne. A huge well done to everyone!
Area Outdoor Athletics Track & Field
On Monday, 32 children from Key Stage 2 attended a Track & Field Athletics Event for the Shipston Area. The Year 6’s (+ some 5s) had previously won the area event but were unable to attend the final as they were at Marle Hall. Our children were competing against mainly Year 6s and did amazingly well, finishing 5th but were only a few points behind other schools. They were energetic, enthusiastic and had a great team spirit. We are extremely proud of them. Well done Team
On Saturday 28th February Roxanne, Matthew, Kathryne, Kira, Conar and Oliver attended the last cross country race of the season. All ran well especially Roxanne who came 5th and Matthew who came 2nd. On Monday, 22 children attended Kineton High for a very noisy and fun athletic event, including various relay races and field events such as standing triple jump. The children were very supportive of each other and probably made more noise than any of the other seven schools.
We were just pipped at the post by Shipston Primary who won the event, but we have heard that we did make it through to the Small Schools Indoor Athletics final in March.
Another fabulous turn out (16) on a cold, but sunny Saturday morning at Stratford Recreation Ground. All children did incredibly well but a special mention to Leah (Year 4) who came 2nd out of 101 runners – an amazing achievement – could she be the next Paula Radcliffe? We must also mention Matthew (Year 5) who was 2nd out of 60 runners but whose race was the fastest of the day. Details of all children and places can be seen on our Sports board.
Last Saturday 6 December 17 children attended The Paul Billing Annual Cross Country run at Shipston High School. On Tuesday, Ilmington Primary came to play Hi 5. Two very competitive matches with the Year 6 match ending in a 9 all draw. A very fast moving, end to end game. Although Year 5 got off to a slow start they won the match convincingly 7-2 thanks to Emily’s fantastic shooting. Well done to everyone.
Last Saturday our Year 5/6 boy’s football team entered their first tournament of the school year. Despite some great team work the boys narrowly missed out on going through to the group stages.

On Monday our Year 5/6 football team played their first match of the season away at Wellesbourne Primary. Despite some fantastic goalkeeping by Dan and Henry and a great goal by Archie they lost 5-1. The boys worked hard as a team with some great passages of play and are looking forward to their next match.

They all did amazingly well especially Matthew Bexson Y5 who came 2nd and Leah Bowen Y4 who also came 2nd out of 110 girls!- in fact all the year 3/4 girls came within the top 30 – quite an achievement.
On Thursday we had our first Hi 5 match of the school year. For the first time, Kineton Primary came to us and so were an unknown team. Despite Kineton’s very tall players, Ettington were amazing!
