Happy birthday to Mr Higgitt.
It was an early start this morning but breakfast of sausage, beans, hash browns, toast and porridge set us up for the day…
Lake Padarn was our destination (about 30 minutes from Marle Hall). The stunning scenery, the remote hills and the tranquil lake were interrupted somewhat by our arrival and the still lake became a splash zone, but lots of fun was had by all.
After an exhausting paddle across the lake (some of us did far more paddling than others), we set up camp, made damper bread, toasted marshmallows, chopped firewood, used a bow to light a fire and built a shelter. Some people even saw a snake! A bonus today was that we all wore wellies so shoe laces were not a problem.
Evening activities included team games and a blindfolded night line. We even made some children do some writing in the hope that it would tire them out for the night, but no such luck…The giggles coming from the boys’ bedroom suggest that sleep is the last thing on their mind.
We have seen great table manners from Lucia, Rhiann and Daniel; Scarlett and Heidi have been adventurous and have tried new foods; Jacob and Clover have led their team mates during the collaborative games and Tom and Gracie have proven themselves as competent canoeists.
Once again, the children have been a delight (during the day at least – bedtimes are proving to be less enjoyable) and we are looking forward to gorge scrambling in the morning.
